1. PROFESSIONAL TERMINOLOGY IN THE PRACTICE OF LAW (in English, French and German) for ONE SEMESTER

Course outline

The course targets students of law, helps them acquire the legal professional terminology of the target language and prepares them for the interpretation, translation and application of legal texts in the given language. It builds  special legal vocabulary in a systematic way and develops the most essential language skills (speaking, writing, translation, reading comprehension and listening) through the discussion of different topics in the subject area, namely: legal systems, forms of state, legislation, public administration and local government systems, the role and the scope of authority of local governments.

2. NEGOTIATION SKILLS for ONE SEMESTER

 

Lecturer: Ms. Anikó UNGER

Course outline

Students in this course should come aware of the need to develop not only their language skills but to enrich their assets in Rhetoric and in all registers of negotiation abilities. Student should be sharp to recognize and adapt to the specific legal systems or business environments. They will also have a chance to improve their communication skills by acting out role-plays and presenting or analysing cases.

3. INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATION for ONE SEMESTER

Course outline

The course will enable the student to understand the importance of effective communication in a wide variety of contexts and channels, from interpersonal to larger organisational and mass communication settings. Students will be equipped with the skills for effective written and oral communication practice in diverse personal and professional situations while meeting the demands of our contemporary worldwide society.

4. LEGAL WRITING IN ENGLISH

Lecturer: BALOGH Dorka

 

Aim of the course: to acquire legal writing skills that serve as a basis for effective written legal communication. Students will get to know the typical elements of client-focused text composition through the discussion of the theoretical and historical background of the plain English movement and will become aware of the different textual features of legal text types.

 5. DRAFTING CONTRACTS IN ENGLISH

Lecturer: UNGER Anikó

The aim of the course is to familiarize
students with the linguistic, stylistic and formal requirements of drafting
contracts in English, thus focusing on one of the most frequent document types
of legal documents. The language of contracts will be primarily examined within
the context of the Hungarian legal system, but students will also gain an
insight into the basic rules of translating contracts between different legal
systems, as well as the current processes in the EU that aim to unify the
terminology of private law.

For participation in the course, an intermediate level of English language knowledge is recommended.

6.  FAMOUS FRENCH CRIMINAL CASES

Lecturer: PERLAKI Rózsa

The aim of the course is Analysing criminal statistichs, learning the French equivalents of the different types of crimes, reading newspaper articles, studying the history of the French police,
discussing the relationship between crime and immigration, introducing the public ordfer in Paris
